Play
and Art Therapy
Plato said, “You can discover more about
a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”
We offer play therapy as a way to help children understand
and express their thoughts and emotions. Play is a natural
and important activity for children. It is the language for
communications and expression of feelings and creates a safe
atmosphere in which a child can express him/herself. Play
and art therapy are used to help children develop more effective
ways of communication, learn rules, play through problems
relate to physical, social and emotional issues. Art therapy
is a form of expressive therapy that uses art materials. It
combines traditional psychotherapeutic theories and techniques
with an understanding of the psychological aspects of the
creative process, especially the affective properties of the
different art materials.
Sandtray
Therapy
Additionally, we utilize the sandtray in therapy.
Sandplay therapy is suitable for children and adults and allows
greater exploration of deep emotional issues. Through a safe
and supportive process indiviudals are able to explore their
world using a sandtray and a collection of miniatures. Accessing
hidden or previously unexplored areas is often possible using
this expressive and creative way of working, which does not
rely on “talk” therapy. Sandplay therapy is a
form of psychotherapy that attempts to form a connection with
the psyche towards a goal of healing. Its founder was the
Swiss therapist Dora M. Kalff (1904-1990), who based her theories
on the principles of Jungian psychology and on the work of
Margaret Lowenfeld.
